Situated along the Peconic River in downtown Riverhead, at the gateway to the East End of Long Island, this venue offers multiple spaces for weddings of all sizes. Options include the Sea Star Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling marina views, the Coliseum Room inside the Long Island Aquarium with its colorful aquatic displays, and the Riverside Pavilion, perfect for outdoor ceremonies along the banks of the river.

Couples benefit from full-service planning, in-house catering, and event management, with options for plated dinners, buffets, or cocktail receptions. The Wedding Industry

Growing up on Long Island was great. My first job after college was a night shift at a local hotel. Summertime meant getting up early and going to Robert Moses beach till 1pm, heading home to shower and show up to work by 3pm. Of course, a stop at my favorite deli for a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll was a must for the ride to the beach. I’ve been in the hospitality business for quite a few years working at several properties here on Long Island with both corporate and social clients. I love helping couples plan their wedding day where there is so much joy and the beginning of a new life together. I’ve been married for over 30 years so I’ve been through all the wonderful things these couples will soon experience: a great wedding day and honeymoon, buying their first home, children, entertaining friends and family at their own place. And it all starts when they get engaged! My oldest son is going to propose to his girlfriend soon (whom I LOVE) so I will be joining all the mothers of the groom soon experiencing wedding planning from the other side!

The Wedding Memories

One of my favorite couples is Elyse and Craig. They met in Florida during a hurricane. She is a nurse and the sweetest person I’ve ever met. They made such a great, happy couple. During our planning process, my mom passed away and Elyse sent me a bouquet of flowers in sympathy from her wedding florist. It so touched me that she would think of me as she was in the middle of planning her wedding. I attended the ceremony which was outside in our Riverside Pavilion. Craig originally wanted to arrive via his boat but the engine was acting up and thought it too risky (good call!). In addition to the beautiful décor at the ceremony, their ring bearer came down the aisle in a motorized Jeep. The cutest entrance ever!

Company History

Atlantis Banquets & Events has been part of the Riverhead waterfront community for over two decades. The property first opened in 2000 as Atlantis Marine World — Long Island’s first aquarium — and quickly became known not only as an attraction but as one of the most unique wedding and event venues on Long Island.

In 2010, the venue expanded with the addition of the Sea Star Ballroom, a contemporary waterfront ballroom overlooking the Treasure Cove Resort Marina. The adjoining 100-room Hyatt Place hotel soon followed, offering convenient guest accommodations. After rebranding as the Long Island Aquarium in 2011, the complex continued to grow with the Seaside Grill and a new boutique hotel, solidifying its place as a leading Riverhead wedding destination.

Today, Atlantis Banquets & Events is a cornerstone of downtown Riverhead’s revitalization, contributing to a thriving district of waterfront restaurants, parks, breweries, and new development — making it a premier Long Island and North Fork wedding destination.

FAQs

  1. Do you have outdoor ceremony space? Yes! From May through October we offer outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour and event space at the Riverside Pavilion or Riverfront Room, adjacent to the Peconic River.
  2. Can we take pictures with the animals? Yes! We offer unique photo opportunities with a Penguin, Sea Lion, and in our tropical Butterfly Garden.
  3. Who caters your food? We do! As a full-service event venue, we have an award-winning executive chef and his professional culinary team that know the kitchen, the best local sources, the event space, and the timing of the events.
  4. Where can our guests stay after the wedding? We have two hotels on site: the Hyatt Place Long Island/East End and The Preston Hotel. Discounted group room blocks are available through our sales department and our brides get first pick for available dates.
  5. Do you have any suites? Yes, the Preston Hotel has several suite options, and the Waterfront Suite, located at the Treasure Cove Resort Marina, is a great gathering place for your family or bridal party. In addition, each Hyatt Place guestroom is up to 400 square feet, larger than most hotel rooms. The Howell House is also available to rent in its entirety, a great choice for the bridal party.
  6.  Is there a ballroom at your property? Yes, we have the contemporary, waterfront Sea Star Ballroom overlooking the Peconic River that is separate from the Aquarium event setting. Evening events at the Long Island Aquarium can happen in the aquarium among the tropical displays and habitats, OR in our elegant Sea Star Ballroom. Some couples choose both venues with cocktail hour in the aquarium and dinner and dancing in the ballroom.
  7. Do you offer after-hour parties? Yes, we can host an after-hour wedding events in the Sea Star Ballroom or Long Island Aquarium, when your wedding is hosted here.
  8. Can I customize the menu? We offer wedding packages that fit most tastes, and we can add select items to any of our current menus. Our executive chef can replicate a treasured family recipe and vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options are also available.
  9. Do you offer all-inclusive wedding packages? Yes, our All-Inclusive Sweetheart Package includes a DJ, photographer and flowers.
  10. Do you host rehearsal dinners? Yes, we have several space options for a rehearsal dinner, welcome party and post-wedding brunch.
  11. Where do my guests park for my wedding? All wedding packages include valet parking. Drop off is located in front of either the aquarium or Sea Star building depending on where your event is located.
  12.  Is an open bar included? Yes, all wedding packages include an open bar. If you don’t drink for religious reasons, the bar may be omitted.
  13. Can we come early for pictures? Yes, we encourage you to come one-to-two hours before your wedding to take advantage of the property and the riverfront area for amazing wedding photos.
  14. Is the ballroom part of the Hyatt Place hotel? No, the Sea Star Ballroom is a stand-alone venue located in-between the Hyatt and the Aquarium.

BOLI Love!

Shout out to Craig and his crew! When he sat down with us he went over everything!  Truly he helped make our decision easier just by the way he explained the details and showed the true passion he had for his job.  It was absolutely beautiful. We did the cocktail hour in the aquarium and the reception in the Sea Star ballroom. They had it decorated for Christmas and it was everything we could dream of and more.  The staff, the food and the service was amazing.

The whole process was so smooth, since the day we first visited until the end of the big night. Joan, the sales rep, was amazing to work with, she also helped us with the rehearsal dinner contract. Bonus points for everything being managed by the same company so booking rehearsal dinner, wedding venue and hotel was so easy. Everyone there was so helpful the whole day, and we still hear from our guest how the bartenders remembered all their drinks throughout the night. Christina was amazing and was always checking with us if something was missing. My bridal attendant was incredible and made me feel so beautiful, confident and comfortable. The food was delicious, the exit station was the cherry on top. We had our cocktail hour at the aquarium itself and people LOVED mingling while watching the fish tank 100% recommend doing that.

Let me start with the venue itself. It was stunning, and so much fun. Everyone was talking about how unique it was, and how they couldn't believe how they transformed the space. I had my ceremony upstairs in the Sea Star Ballroom, which was very classy and traditional, and then we took photos afterward in the lobby which was stunning. For Cocktail hour, we were in the stingray area and under the shark, and it was great. The reception was under the shark, with dinner served on the Coliseum floor. It was so cool. So many different spaces and areas, and so many options! The food was outstanding. The staff was great. Waitresses and bartenders, etc. Bryan answered all my questions right away, made me feel very welcomed, and was so accommodating to us. We loved working with him. They assign you a "Captain", who does a lot of behind the scenes stuff. I met him briefly and he was very nice. My Bridal Attendant was Mary and she was a dream. She was so calming, so friendly, and everyone really liked having her around. Then there was Christina. AN ANGEL ON ACTUAL EARTH. During the day she was awesome, she had everything handled, had all of my vendors in place, and made sure everything was perfect. I can't even put into words how much we loved her.

They were amazing! My main contact throughout planning was Joan and she was truly amazing! Always answered any questions I had and responded to my emails so quickly! The food was amazing and the drinks were great too! My day of bridal assistants were also amazing and helped carry my train down those crazy stairs. All in all the venue was amazing! I’d definitely recommend.

Some things that were important to me was to not have an overcrowded space and having a big dance floor. The Sea Star Ballroom checked all of the boxes for us. They have a large space with a huge dance floor in the middle with two long bars on either side. They also have a BEAUTIFUL staircase leading up to the space that I knew I wanted to take photos on. You also have access to the aquarium space as well which we used for our cocktail hour. They have a great staff that was easy to work with and listened to everything we wanted. The food options were great and everything tasted amazing!

I loved having my wedding at the aquarium. It was such a beautiful venue, and I received so many compliments from my guests. The whole staff was accommodating and attentive to everything! I loved having the cocktail hour in the aquarium and then the reception in the ballroom, it was a very unique experience and wish I could relive it!

Atlantis Banquets and Events - A+ These guys were incredible from start to finish. Always with a great attitude and responded to emails within decent time frames. They made everything SO EASY to plan...to the point that I felt like I had missed something because I was always told weddings were MUCH harder than this! The views itself, absolutely gorgeous. You wouldn't think there would be such beauty of water hiding somewhere in Riverhead but I found it...unfortunately, it was torrential downpour on my wedding day by the time the ceremony was to begin, so we moved it inside to their lobby which was STILL GORGEOUS. The aquarium for a cocktail hour was so unique and a blast. Everyone loved it. The food was delicious and they gave so much variety.
