Introduction

Hello,

My name is Sara Shonfeld. I am an ordained Rabbi,  and Interfaith officiant.

Being part of my couples' journey and special day is truely a pleasure and honor!  Best of all,  is the feeling that it doesn't end at the wedding; I love staying connected with my couples and their families.

A little bit about myself: I was born and raised in Israel where I mastered in education and Jewish studies. I have been officiating Jewish, interfaith, spiritual, civil and intercultural ceremonies in Long Island and the Tri State Area. A Wedding is a sacred loving union that should express who you are as an individual and as a couple. I welcome all couples and am proud to celebrate marriage equality!

One of the things that my couples love most about my services is my attention to the personal aspects, those details that make you two a unique couple!   All my ceremonies are personalized, inclusive, joyful and welcoming.

In Jewish ceremonies, prayers and blessings are authentically chanted with original melodies in my native fluent Hebrew and is also translated in English.  My goal is that every one of your guests will feel included and an integral part of your celebration. All blessings are chanted in Hebrew so they sounds really nice and authentic.

I will work with you individually to create a custom ceremony, so it will be unique to you as a couple. It will be personalized and can include your love story, engagement story, and small details will be weaved into the ceremony.  All these, create the magic, where all your guests will feel included and part of your ceremony.

I am respectfully open and accepting of all traditions and seeing them all as equal paths.
Often, I co-officiate weddings with clergy from other religions and faiths. I will be happy to work with your clergy or I have a group of wonderful and professional ministers that I work with as a Rabbi and Minister team. Together, we create a balanced, harmonious and joyful wedding that speaks to all.

I perform ceremonies anywhere, but my main area of focus is NYC, Long Island and the Tri-State Area!

Media release: Podcast Business News – Interview with Rabbi Sara Shonfeld

1. Please give a description of your company and the products/services you offer.

My name is Sara Shonfeld. I am a legally ordained Rabbi and an interfaith wedding and lifecycle officiant. I was born and raised in Israel where I master’s in education and Jewish studies. I am 7th generations born and raised in Israel. Which means that my family lived in Israel in the past 200 years.

I studied Education, music and extensive Jewish studies In Israel, and over the years my work was always revolved around the Jewish life and Jewish education. I was part of: family’s engagement interactive programs, Shabbat and holiday services, Lifecyle celebrations, As a music specialist, I taught music for all ages including: drumming and percussion classes in many schools, temples and Yeshivas in Long Island and NY and also, I presented at Jewish conferences and presented music programs for teachers.

As part of my job as a Rabbi and Interfaith officiant , I am honored to perform many wedding ceremonies which are all personalized, inclusive, and welcoming. Some are strictly Jewish and some are Jewish interfaith or interfaith.   I work with my couples individually to create and tailor the ceremony that truly represents them as a couple but also their families who will feel most connected to.  I am respectfully open and accepting of all traditions and seeing them all as equal paths with the goal to perform a unique and dynamic ceremony that each guest will feel included and engaged during the ceremony.

2. How long have you been in business?

I have been officiating Jewish, interfaith, spiritual, civil and interfaith ceremonies and lifecycle events for the past 13 years. I received my Rabbinical Semicha (ordination) from the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute in New York. The Rabbinical School code of ethics represent the designation of a Rabbi far more than a title or a job; it represents a life commitment and a dedication to serving our communities.

3. Tell us about your business.

I am an independent Rabbi. That means that I perform either Jewish or Jewish interfaith ceremonies. I am a co-owner of Ceremonies of the Heart LTD along with Rev. Deb Viola. Together, we provide lifecycle service for Long Island and the tri-state area. I meet with each couple to discuss all the options that are available in creating their ceremonies and together we work on creating a beautiful, meaningful, and personalized ceremony. I am grateful and truly honored to be part of their special day.

I love connecting with their family and friends and being part of their milestone life cycle celebrations .  It is important to me to stay connected to my couples and I often continue to be part of their lifecycle events such as baby blessing and naming, Bar and Bat Mitzvah, and more.

4. What inspired you to pursue your profession?

Many Jewish couples are not part of a synagouge but yet, they want to include the blessing and have a Jewish cermeony . Also,  interfaith couples were kind of left behind when their love was not recognized by rabbis who will marry only Jewish couples.

There was a need for many couples who don’t share the same faith and still want to include Jewish elements, traditions, and cultural aspect as part of their ceremony and to be represented by a Rabbi who will include cultural traditions and blessings. I am honored to be there for them!

5. What would you like the listeners to know about you?

I love people. My work was always with and around people of all ages! Marriage is a huge milestone!
Officiating each ceremony is the most joyful part of my job! There are many important values in a marriage: Love, respect, devotion, faithfulness, shared values, happiness, trust, consideration, communication, motivating each other, understanding, laughter, connection and more.

Often, I tell my couples: Remember how you fell in love in the first place and keep the romance going. Be attentive to each other, make time for one another, remember to send flowers, love notes, create surprises and memories, and remember not to let life get in the way of your love!

Each and every one of us is a glorious creation of God!

The Wedding Memories

Weddings are charged with feelings; each has its own charm, great moments, humor, laughter, tears;

A Groom who cried when he spoke his vows and said: " I am not crying.. it's allergies"  OR the reaction of the guests when listening to the Bride and Groom's love story,  Parents who throw a joke when they hand the Bride to her Groom ,  Grooms who smash the glass with too much force (the fear of not breaking the glass) and so much more.  The joy of getting married is wonderful!

Specialization

I specilize in creating truly unique and personlized ceremonies that not only include traditions and blessing but can also include your  love stories.

My "other hat" is being a  music specialist;  I studied  music education and over the years my work was always revolved around the Jewish life and Jewish education. My music backround brings joy and melodies to my ceremonies and create beautiful moments.

BOLI Love!

Rabbi Sara is the most amazing human being. From the very first zoom call, she made me and my husband feel so welcomed and loved. Being an interfaith/interracial couple, we wanted to make sure that the Rabbi we were choosing checked all of our boxes and Rabbi Sara did just that. She walked us through the entire process and made us super comfortable from that first interaction all the way to our wedding day. All of our friends and family absolutely loved her and she really made the day special. I cannot say enough about how amazing she is and my husband and I are forever grateful.

Katrina W.

My husband and I don’t belong to a temple, so we wanted to find a rabbi who would do a good job and make the ceremony feel personal, even though they don’t really know us. When searching this group, one name stood out more than anyone else - Rabbi Sara Shonfeld. I can see why and I’m so thankful we were able to have her officiate our wedding! She was such a pleasure to work with and was flexible and open to any changes we wanted to make. I’m not religious, so I wanted it to be a very modern ceremony that focused on our love and relationship, with the basic traditions sprinkled throughout. She sent us multiple drafts and was happy to make any edits we asked for. I’ve received so many compliments from guests about her, she has such a warmth that makes you feel like she really knows you.

Jessica W.

My partner and I had a Jewish wedding and Rabbi Shonfeld made the ceremony the most memorable part. Although we’re not very religious, we wanted to embrace all of the different aspects of a Jewish wedding but we also did not want our ceremony to be overly long. Less than four months before the wedding my mom passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. Rabbi Shonfeld spent a tremendous amount of time with us to adjust the ceremony to make sure we honored my mom in the best way. Additionally Rabbi Shonfeld helped us make it so the ceremony honored my mom but also make sure it didn’t feel like a memorial service. We both agree that we believe the ceremony was our favorite part. Rabbi Shonfeld made it so personal, and the perfect combination of serious and some fun, and she never overstepped in anyway or interjected too much. Everyone told us how beautiful they thought the ceremony was; Rabbi Shonfeld gave us a ceremony beyond our dreams. We highly recommend you use Rabbi Shonfeld as the officiant for your wedding (she also does interfaith weddings!)

Elissa F.

Rabbi Sara was wonderful throughout the entire process of our wedding planning. She made us feel comfortable as an interfaith couple and was so patient and flexible. The ceremony was perfect and our guests loved her!

Marisa P.

Rabbi Sara was INCREDIBLE! My husband and I are an interfaith couple and wanted to find a Rabbi who would compliment both of our religious backgrounds. Rabbi Sara worked with us to create a ceremony of perfect balance and all our guests have not stopped raving about how amazing she and the service were.

Lindsay L.

Rabbi Shonfeld was awesome! She immediately made us feel very comfortable and it felt like I already knew her. The ceremony was beautiful and she exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend her!

Steven N.

Rabbi Sara was amazing! We had so many compliments on how well she did, even from those who are unfamiliar with a Jewish ceremony. I even had family from Israel express what a fantastic job she did!

Mark O.

After our first phone call with her, we knew we wanted her for our wedding. Despite never meeting beforehand, she made our ceremony so personal and our guests loved it. We felt so at ease with her and she really understood how to mix in Jewish elements while also not making it overly religious. Will definitely be using her for other events in the future!

Samantha S.

We couldn't think of anyone better to officiate our wedding. When we saw Sara officiate our friends wedding we knew we wanted her to marry us. She was very kind and we loved how she let us build our ceremony. My husband and I were having a nerdy wedding and she added may the force be with you in English and in Hebrew at the end. We were thrilled to have her be a part of our day.

Rachel H.

Rabbi Sara was phenomenal! She made our ceremony so special and personal. She was so easy to work with and customized our ceremony to exactly what we wanted. We had so many friends and family come up to us at our wedding to say what an amazing job Rabbi Sara did with our ceremony!

Kate C.

Rabbi Sara was absolutely amazing! Our friends and family are still raving about how beautiful our ceremony was. She customized our ceremony just the way we wanted and the presentation was beautiful. I would definitely recommend!

Heather S.

Sara was an amazing officiant, she took the time to find out our story and how we really wanted our guests to understand our love story. She did it with such elegance and professionalism. We are so happy we were able to work with Sara.

Brittany R.

Rabbi Sara Shonfeld is a wedding GURU!! Her personality and cheerfulness throughout the entire wedding process has made me feel the most excited about our Jewish ceremony! She is so kind, caring, thoughtful and light-hearted! Her professionalism and attention to detail was immaculate in every way. Our guests RAVED about how beautiful and intimate our ceremony was and the highlight being Rabbi Shonfeld!
