Introduction

Hi! My name is Theresa, founder of Tree Tails Pet Care!

After getting engaged myself, I immediately knew that having my own pets at my wedding was a huge priority. But while planning, I kept getting stuck on one major question: Who’s going to watch my dog during the wedding day?

I realized this is a challenge so many engaged couples face. Your pets are family, and of course you want them there for your biggest moments! But any friend or relative you might ask to help is already there to celebrate with you, and you don’t want someone you love to spend your wedding “working.”

So… who do you call?

Well, I decided to become the answer to that question. You call me!

With a background in animal care, behavior, grooming, and pet handling, I strive to make your wedding day as stress-free and magical for your pets as it is for you. Every animal is different, and I pride myself on meeting them exactly where they are. Some pets feel nervous in large crowds - I’m there to comfort and reassure them. Some get a little too excited - I’m there to help them burn off those zoomies before the big moment. Above all else, my top priority is to help your fur baby stay happy and safe throughout the day.

Outside of weddings, I also work closely with young adults with special needs - a role that has further shaped my patience, adaptability, and natural caregiving approach. Caring for others has always come naturally to me, and I bring that same compassion and attentiveness to every pet I work with.

My goal is never just to “watch” your pets. I’m there to advocate for them, care for them, and help include them in your wedding in whatever way feels right for you as a couple. Whether your pet is walking down the aisle, posing for portraits, greeting guests, or simply sharing quiet moments with you behind the scenes, I make sure they are safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for every step of the way.

One of my absolute favorite moments is watching a couple light up when they finally see their pet on their wedding day. There’s something so special about that moment when the entire family is together — including the four-legged family members who have been there through every chapter leading up to “I do.”

I also believe this service should feel accessible and attainable for couples across Long Island, and I’m proud to work with and celebrate couples of all backgrounds.

No matter what your wedding day looks like, I’m here to be your Pet’s Plus One!

Although, admittedly, I still haven’t figured out who’s going to be my pet’s plus one at my wedding yet. So if you’re reading this and have ideas… I’m all ears.

The Wedding Industry

I got into the wedding industry because I truly believe weddings are about bringing together everyone you love — including your pets. As someone currently planning my own wedding, I understand how important it is for couples to feel fully present and stress-free on such a meaningful day.

One of my favorite parts of this job is watching couples light up when they see their pet included in their wedding day. Whether it’s walking down the aisle, posing for photos, or simply being there for the big moments, I love helping couples create memories with the pets who have been part of their story all along.

I feel incredibly lucky to combine my love for animals, caregiving, and weddings into a career that helps make those moments possible.

The Wedding Memories

Every wedding I’ve been part of has been special in its own way, but some of the moments that stand out most to me are when couples include the story of adopting their pet in their vows or speeches. It’s such a beautiful reminder that their pet isn’t “just a dog," they’re family, and they’ve been part of the couple’s journey to this moment.

One wedding that especially stuck with me was Jamie & Mike’s wedding with their dog, Pedro. Every time Pedro saw his parents together, his tail would go absolutely wild. During the ceremony, he just sat there watching them with so much excitement and pride, like he truly understood how important the moment was. It was one of those weddings that reminded me why I love what I do so much.

Specialization

Tree Tails Pet Care specializes exclusively in wedding day pet attendance and care. My focus is helping couples safely and comfortably include their pets in one of the most important days of their lives - whether that means walking down the aisle, posing for photos, greeting guests, or simply being present for the celebration.

I especially focus on adapting to each individual pet's needs and personality. Some pets thrive being the center of attention, while others need extra patience, reassurance, breaks, or a quieter approach throughout the day. My background in animal care, behavior, and caregiving allows me to create a calm, safe, and personalized experience for every pet involved.

At the end of the day, my specialty is making sure pets are not only included in the wedding, but genuinely cared for while they're part of it.

Company History

Tree Tails Pet Care has steadily grown over the past three years, and I am incredibly grateful for every couple who has trusted me with such an important part of their wedding day. What started as a solution to a problem I personally experienced while planning my own wedding has grown into something truly special.

My goal is to become Long Island’s go-to choice for quality wedding and special event pet care, while always staying true to the values that inspired this business in the first place: prioritizing pet wellness, reducing stress for couples, and celebrating the incredible bond between pets and their owners.

As for the name origin, it’s actually pretty simple! Although my name is Theresa, my friends and family have always called me “Tree,” which eventually inspired the name Tree Tails Pet Care.

In 2025, my best friend, Shannon officially joined the business, and I truly could not imagine doing this without her. Not only is she one of my closest confidants and biggest supporters, but she also has a strong background in animal science, handling, and behavior. Shannon helps care for weddings I’m unable to personally attend, as well as weddings involving multiple pets, helping us ensure every animal receives the same level of individualized care and attention we pride ourselves on providing.

FAQs

"You have the best job ever!

I hear this from wedding guests all the time! And honestly? I completely agree. Spending my weekends surrounded by happy couples, adorable pets, and love stories is pretty hard to beat.

How do you make pets feel comfortable with someone new?

Before every wedding, I have couples fill out an extensive intake form so I can learn everything about their pet’s routine, personality, triggers, favorite things, care needs, and comfort levels. My goal is to make their time with me feel as close to being at home with their parents as possible. The more I know about your pet, the better I can support them and help them feel safe, relaxed, and cared for throughout the day.

Can my pet actually stay for the whole wedding?

Absolutely! Every wedding is different, so I work closely with couples to create a plan that fits their pet’s personality, comfort level, and involvement. Some pets stay for portraits and the ceremony, while others hang out for cocktail hour or even the entire reception. With that being said, different venues do have different rules regarding pets, and we will always take those into account when involving your pet in your wedding.

What if my dog gets anxious or overly excited?

That’s exactly what I’m there for! I have experience in animal handling, behavior, and caregiving, and I always prioritize your pet’s comfort and safety first. Whether your pet needs reassurance, breaks, walks, water, or just a quiet moment away from the crowd, I’ve got them covered.

Do you only work with dogs?

Nope! While dogs are definitely the most common wedding guests, I’ve worked with all kinds of pets and love helping couples find creative ways to include their animals in their special day.

"What happens to my pet after they leave the wedding?”

I can transport pets home, back to a hotel, or wherever they need to go after their big moment in the spotlight! Depending on the package you choose, I can also stay with them until someone comes home.

Personal Hobbies

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me at home with my own pets. Currently, I have 2 dogs, 1 orange cat, 4 frogs, and a Blue Tongue Skink. Can you tell I'm an animal lover?

I'm also a really creative and adventurous person. I love crafting in all forms, and I'm always working on a new project. Additionally, I love to travel! On my vacations, you'll find me  camping, cruising, zip lining, scuba diving, ghost hunting, and whatever other crazy idea I can get my fiancee to agree to do with me!

BOLI Love!

Theresa from treetails petcare was an absolute gem I found through BOLI page . My 1 year old golden retriever(Bella) is my baby and she took great care of her. She’s so hyper and has all the golden energy which I was very worried if a sitter could handle, specially for a whole day. Bella ended up having a great time with Theresa and was happy the whole day. The best part was, she was updating us with pictures all day and brought my baby to the reception and took good care of her . Theresa was such a calm and nice person to work with and all my family members and bridal party ended up loving her being there. My Bella was such a happy girl that day and it definitely took away a lot of stress for me. If your thinking of bringing your pet to your wedding , please do, it brings such a joy when you see them on your special day.

She was our wedding day pet attendant as well as our dog sitter for the entire weekend. My dog has recently gotten neck surgery on top of having 100 allergies and she took care of him so well, sent us pictures and updates all weekend and made sure he was comfortable. The night before the wedding she gave him a bath and grooming. The day of the wedding she came with him in his tux and ran around with all of us for all the picture and scenery changes in the pouring rain. She gave us time with him while we ate hidden in cocktail hour and then came and grabbed him and we were off to take more pictures. She is so nice and caring. On top of all of this, she made the most amazing montage video of my dogs point of view of the wedding. My entire family and friends are already obsessed with this video and we all watch it over and over again.

Tree tails pet care is the best! Theresa took excellent care of our Lucy on multiple occasions. She was our wedding day dog attendant and ensured Lucy was well taken care of during the stress of our wedding day. Lucy was calmed and relaxed to walk down the aisle!
