“Everywhere you look, there’s water.” – Port Jefferson Country Club

Port Jefferson Country Club is Lessing’s newest venue, though the property itself has long been a fixture in the community. “It’s a key institution,” said Joe Scalice, General Manager of Port Jefferson Country Club. “Over the years, it’s been home to Lombardi’s on the Sound and later Waterview. Lessing’s took over in April of 2025 acquired a great property and renovated it beyond perfection.”

Renovations followed, including opening up the ballroom and expanding sight lines throughout the space. “It’s been refreshed,” Scalice said. “The room now feels light and open, with a wall of glass and doors spanning the entire width of the ballroom. Even on the haziest days, guests are treated to extraordinary views of the Long Island Sound.”

What was once the Waterview restaurant is now home to Port Jefferson Country Club’s cocktail hour space. “It’s a big, beautiful room that, again, overlooks the Long Island Sound and has its own private deck. It sets the tone for the entire evening.”

“As far as the ceremony, we have two rooms upstairs: Harbor View and Sound View, and they both have their own outdoor decks,” Joe continued. “Additionally, there’s a new space we’re promoting called the Meadow. It was once the tennis courts and is now a gorgeous field of green that overlooks the water. Everywhere you look, there’s water.”

“We are very flexible, we want to personalize.” – Port Jefferson Country Club

No two couples are alike, and Port Jefferson Country Club is committed to bringing every couple’s specific wedding day visions to life. “We are very flexible, we want to personalize,” Joe explained. “Everyone has a different way of thinking about their wedding day and what they want. We’ve thought of every question that the bride and groom could ever worry about, and that’s all worked on. It’s like the script to a play, so when we get out there and it’s the day to do the performance, everyone is on the same page.”

Paired with that versatility is the incredible passion that fuels every member of the Port Jefferson Country Club team. “Everyone on our staff makes the effort and does what they do with enthusiasm,” Joe said. “Something that I always look for in our team members is the amount of passion for the industry and for making every wedding an event to remember. Going the extra mile is what it’s all about! This is somebody’s special day, and now we’re a part of their history. We want them to remember their day as something extraordinary and beyond their expectations.”

“We have people who understand how important this is, and that’s due to proper selection, proper training, encouragement, and leading by example,” he added.

“If we’re doing the wedding correctly, no one wants to sit down.” – Port Jefferson Country Club

Lessing’s venues are known for their insatiable menus, and Port Jefferson Country Club is no different. “There are so many wonderful things,” Joe detailed. “Our chef has incredible innate talent, has been trained in top-tier kitchens, and is delivering restaurant-caliber, à la minute cuisine.”

“For cocktail hour, one of my favorites is the Steak House Carvery,” he continued. “It’s more than just a standard carving station – bone and rib eye cuts, sirloin, flank steak, served with creamed spinach and potatoes, crispy onions, and Peter Luger steak sauce.”

“The Chianti Braised Short Ribs is a favorite entree,” he added. “It falls apart with a fork. The flavors are wonderful.”

Of course, you’ll want to top the night off with a sweet treat. Fortunately, you won’t have to decide between dessert and the dance floor. “If we’re doing the wedding correctly, no one wants to sit down,” Joe said. “I love that we have passed desserts for that reason. It allows people to dance and grab a cheesecake lollipop, or churro, or a mini jelly donut. It’s fun as opposed to something that’s traditionally formal.”

“We also have a beautiful selection of enhancements,” he concluded. “My career has largely focused on wine, so for the wine lovers, I’m always available for upgrades whether it be for one person, one course, or the entire wedding.”

“Ask all the questions.” – Port Jefferson Country Club

Joe stressed the importance of sticking with your wedding day vision. “Don’t be afraid to express, even if you can’t articulate it fully, what you see your wedding being like,” he recommended. “Ask all the questions. Make sure you have coordination between all of your vendors and the property itself. Make sure that the level of care and flexibility is there for you to personalize your wedding.”

“If you have the opportunity, try to use house vendors,” he emphasized. “Do your research and look at the reviews, but that photographer knows where all the shots are and won’t waste your entire cocktail hour trying to find the perfect photo. That florist will know the table sizes and what works best in the room. It’s important to look at everything from a practical point of view, trust the professionals, and trust your own instincts and vision.”
