We sat down with founder Tara Bhrushundi to explore how live musicians bring a level of personalization no playlist can match.

Sweet Harmony approaches every ceremony with the belief that music should reflect a couple’s personality. Their song list — built and expanded continuously since 2008 — gives couples a huge starting point, but Tara says the real magic happens when clients bring in new ideas. “Today’s couples introduce us to so much interesting music, and we’re always learning something new,” she explains. Whether it’s adapting a TikTok‑famous track, arranging a hip‑hop song for strings or commissioning custom sheet music, their team has systems in place to transform any request into a meaningful, playable moment.
Choosing ceremony music can feel overwhelming, especially when couples are staring at a long song list and don’t know where to begin. Tara and her team start by asking about a couple’s style, theme or the overall feeling they want to create, and then offer suggestions and examples to help narrow the options. “A lot of people say they want something ‘slower,’ but what they really mean is romantic or emotionally powerful – so we listen carefully and ask for a reference recording to make sure we’re on the same page,” she explains. From sharing trends to sending sample recordings back and forth, Sweet Harmony works closely with each couple until every musical moment feels intentional, personal, and just right for their day.
Adapting in Real Time, No Matter What Happens
One of the biggest advantages of live musicians is their ability to adjust instantly to whatever unfolds during the ceremony. Tara shared how even something as simple as a flower girl’s walk can require on‑the‑spot creativity: “You never know what a little flower girl is going to do. She might run, she might wander off, she might take her time, so our musicians watch closely and shape the music to match.” They can repeat a song’s most recognizable section, add light flourishes or stretch out a moment without it ever sounding abrupt or repetitive. Dogs, kids, unexpected pauses — the musicians stay fully present so the moment feels seamless to guests.
In other cases, their adaptability smooths over moments that could otherwise feel awkward. Tara recalled a wedding where the officiant — the bride’s grandfather — accidentally began the ceremony before the bride had even walked down the aisle. “We jumped in with a grand, majestic flourish to reset the moment and give her the entrance she deserved,” she says. Unlike a recording, which can’t jump, fade or shift gracefully, live musicians can add intros, adjust endings and create transitions on the fly, ensuring every moment feels intentional and beautifully timed.
Behind‑the‑Scenes Coordination That Makes Everything Seamless
Sweet Harmony works closely with planners, venues and other vendors to make sure the musicians have everything they need long before the ceremony begins. Their event coordinator handles logistics like weather protection for string instruments, power access and equipment compatibility so the performers can focus entirely on the music. “A wedding brings so many people together for the first time, so our coordinator reaches out early to make sure everyone knows what we need — from umbrellas to chairs,” Tara explains.
On the day of, the musicians check in with officiants to confirm the exact cue for the recessional and coordinate with sound teams for smooth transitions. Whether it’s waiting for a final line, a joke or an introduction before starting the music, they make sure every moment lands exactly as intended.

Tara shared that guests notice it too: “People tell us their guests were complimenting the music all night, and that means so much to us — couples really want their guests to have an outstanding, memorable experience.”
