Nothing reflects your “bridal style” quite like your hair. Whether you’re going for long, boho-inspired locks or a sleek, sophisticated updo, your bridal hair is one of the most important pieces in your overall look.
There are tons of talented wedding hair stylists on Long Island, and choosing the one for the job is a big decision. We tapped two of BOLI’s Preferred Vendors — Angela’s Hair Design and Ink & Ivy — and asked what to expect when hiring your wedding hair stylist. Here’s what they said.

You’re hiring more than a hair stylist
Angela Cappuccia, owner of Angela’s Hair Design, stressed that your stylist has more responsibilities than just perfecting your bridal hair.
“One of the biggest things I wish every bride knew is that booking your wedding hair stylist is about much more than choosing a hairstyle. It’s also about finding someone you trust to help you feel calm, confident, and like the best version of yourself on one of the biggest days of your life,” she said.
Nikki Lee Favata, owner and lead stylist of Ink & Ivy, agreed. “Your wedding hair stylist should bring more than beautiful hair to your day. They should bring peace of mind,” she said. “You should feel cared for.”

Book ASAP
Angela stressed that stylists can book up months and even years ahead of time.
“Book early,” she said. “Popular wedding dates can fill up 9 to 12 months in advance, especially during peak wedding season. If you found a style whose work you love, don’t wait too long to reach out to them.”

Communication is key
Your stylist knows how important this day is! That’s why anyone you hire should be communicative and easy to contact.
“You should expect clear communication, professionalism, and someone who genuinely cares about your experience,” said Nikki. “Your stylist should take the time to understand your vision, recommend what works best for your hair, and create a style that feels elevated, effortless, and authentically you.”
Angela concurred, but noted that you may experience a period where communication isn’t as frequent — especially if your wedding day isn’t on the immediate horizon. “Communication is important, but there may be periods with less communication while your stylist is serving other weddings,” she said. “But you should always know when to expect important check-ins regarding your timeline, final headcount, and logistics.”

Your stylist will set the mood on the big day
Both Angela and Nikki agreed that your stylist should keep you grounded and calm during those pre-wedding hours.
“Your wedding morning sets the tone for the entire day, so choose vendors who are organized and at ease,” Angela suggested. “Feeling relaxed and cared for is just as important as loving your hairstyle.”
