“One of the biggest misconceptions about a wedding DJ is that our job is simply to play great music,” says Matt. Every crowd has a different energy,” he says. That might mean extending a packed dance floor, slowing the pace to match the moment or shifting the timeline so the night flows naturally.

Technology is reliable, but live events can be unpredictable, and professional DJs come prepared with backup equipment, backup music and contingency plans. “My goal is that if something ever does happen behind the scenes, my couples never even know about it,” Matt says.
Coordination is another detail couples may not realize is happening behind the scenes. “A great DJ isn’t working in isolation. We’re communicating with the venue, photographer, videographer, planner, caterer and other vendors throughout the evening to keep everything flowing naturally,” Matt says.
In the end, the strongest entertainment teams are measured not by what’s written in the contract, but by everything couples don’t have to worry about because the DJ has already thought of it.
