In Brides of Long Island’s Monthly “Mrs.” series, we profile some of our members’ unforgettable weddings. This month, Emily talks about how planning her wedding in two years led to the perfect day.

Learning from her sisters’ experiences, Emily knew from the moment she got engaged that she wanted to take her time. She told her now‑husband Donny that waiting a couple of years would allow them the space to plan intentionally, giving them a better chance at securing the best vendors for their July 4, 2025 wedding.
A Different Online Dating Story
Emily and Donny’s love story began in an unexpected way. “We actually met during COVID,” Emily says. With her senior‑year internship in Greece canceled, she signed up for a virtual course her mom found, never imagining her future husband was logging in from South Carolina at the same time.
They spent that summer texting and FaceTiming for three months straight, building a connection before they ever met in person. When they finally met that fall, everything clicked. They started dating immediately, and once Donny graduated, he moved to New York. “Two years later, we were engaged,” she says.
For the proposal, Donny chose a spot that held quiet meaning for them — a tiny stretch of beach in the Huntington Bay area they’d stumbled upon early in their relationship. “It was this random place on the water we visited once, and we didn’t even know it was someone’s property,” Emily laughs. Before proposing, he wrote a letter to the homeowners asking permission to return. On the first day of summer after a lunch in Northport, he drove her back to that little beach to propose. “It was so sweet and so well thought out,” she says.

Plenty of Time to Plan
With two full years ahead of them, Emily and Donny jumped into planning almost immediately. “The week after we got engaged, I told Donny we should start with the big vendors,” Emily says. After watching both her sisters navigate the post‑COVID wedding backlog, she knew early booking would give them the best chance at securing the dates and people they wanted — especially with her teaching schedule.
They planned to tour a few venues, but started with Larkfield since it was close to home and already a familiar place from her family’s celebrations. “We just fell in love with it,” she says. “The staff was so lovely, the space was beautiful, and July 4th was still open. Once we saw the garden and the big room, we canceled the other tours. We signed that week.”
With the venue locked in, they turned their attention to photography and videography – the next most important vendors for both of them. But finding the right style proved trickier than expected.
“We were looking for someone with a warm, natural look, and it was hard to find that in our price range,” Emily explains. Many photographers were also unavailable for July 4th, but she appreciated how gracious they were. “A lot of them said, ‘I don’t work on the Fourth, but here’s a list of colleagues with a similar style,’ which I thought was so classy.”
That’s how they discovered Bernard Alexis Photography, a BOLI Preferred Vendor. “As soon as I saw his Instagram, I loved his work. It was a bonus that he’d photographed so many weddings at Larkfield,” she says. After a call that August, they felt instantly comfortable and booked him right away.

Quiet Moments By the Water
Emily describes the wedding day as a beautiful blend of tradition, emotion and a few quiet moments she and Donny will never forget. “The church ceremony was so special for us,” she says.
After their Greek Orthodox service, they stayed behind to take family photos before slipping away for something rare on a wedding day — time alone. “Our bridal party went to Larkfield, but Donny and I went to Northport Harbor with Bernard and our videographer,” she explains. “It was the only 40 minutes of the day that we were really alone together, and it felt perfect.” Those waterfront portraits ended up being some of her favorites. “I don’t think we would’ve gotten those moments if we didn’t go down to Northport,” she says. “It was exactly what we needed before the party started.”
When it came to vendors, Emily says she couldn’t have asked for a better team. “Bernard was amazing from the very beginning. He knew exactly what he was doing, and his photos are incredible,” she says. Their DJ, BodyRock, kept the energy high all night. “There wasn’t a single low point. They matched our families’ energy perfectly.” And her makeup artist, Glam by Jane Erica, left a lasting impression. “She was unbelievable,” Emily says. “She made everyone look amazing, especially the older women in my family.” Jane and her team even stayed late to do Emily’s grandmother’s makeup as a last-minute add-on. “She went above and beyond,” Emily adds. “Honestly, every vendor did. We didn’t have a single negative experience.”

Give Yourself Time
Emily says the Brides of Long Island Facebook group became one of her most valuable planning tools. “I searched for almost everything,” she says, adding that she even found a Larkfield‑specific subgroup that helped her with venue‑related questions. “People thought of things I never would’ve considered — even what to wear the morning of the wedding. Everything was in that group.”
Her biggest advice for future brides is to give themselves time. “I planned everything myself because I’m a teacher and I love being organized,” she says. “Having two years made the whole process enjoyable. We never felt overwhelmed because we could spread everything out.” She encourages other brides to do the same if they can. “Give yourself time so you can enjoy being engaged and enjoy planning. It doesn’t have to be stressful. It can actually be such a positive experience.”

With so many dessert options, domed cakes are a unique take on a classic (and sure to satisfy any sweet tooth).

Your dress is ordered, your vendors are booked, and your menu is set. Now it’s time to talk about dessert and truly, anything goes. From doughnut walls to parades stacked with ice cream sandwiches and cookies, Long Island couples are getting creative.
But what about the cake? Classic tiers will always have their place, but why not give yours a modern twist? Domed cakes are the newest trend for wedding cakes, and we are so here for it.
Here are some things you need to know about these domed confections.
What is a domed cake, and how is it different from a traditional tiered cake?
A domed cake is exactly what it sounds like — a smooth, rounded, sculptural cake that trades traditional stacked tiers for a sleek, curved silhouette. Instead of sharp edges and flat layers, bakers use specialized molds and carving techniques to create that signature half‑sphere shape. The result is a cake that feels modern, architectural and almost too pretty to cut into. It’s a fresh alternative for couples who still want a “cake moment,” but with a twist that feels elevated and unexpected.
Why are domed cakes becoming such a popular wedding trend?
Domed cakes are having a major moment because they strike the perfect balance between minimalism and drama. Their shape naturally draws the eye, making them a statement piece without needing excessive décor. They also photograph beautifully. That smooth curve catches light in a way that feels editorial and high‑end. And with social media driving so many wedding trends, brides are gravitating toward anything that feels unique, sculptural and instantly Instagrammable. A domed cake checks every box.
How customizable are domed cakes in terms of flavor, size and design?
Despite their modern look, domed cakes are surprisingly versatile. Bakers can fill them with any flavor profile you love, from classic vanilla and chocolate to pistachio, lemon, raspberry or even layered mousse textures. Design‑wise, the dome becomes a blank canvas: think hand‑painted details, sugar flowers, metallic leafing, piped textures or even a glossy mirror glaze. Whether your vibe is whimsical, romantic or ultra‑modern, the dome shape adapts beautifully to your aesthetic.
Are domed cakes practical for larger guest counts?
If you’re hosting a big wedding, don’t worry — you don’t have to sacrifice the dome for the sake of serving everyone. Many couples opt for a domed cake as their showpiece and pair it with sheet cakes or additional desserts behind the scenes. This lets you keep the visual impact while ensuring every guest gets a slice. Some bakers can also create multi‑tiered designs that incorporate a dome on top, blending tradition with trend in a way that still feels cohesive.
What should you know before ordering a domed cake?
Because domed cakes require specific molds, carving techniques and structural support, it’s important to choose a baker experienced with this style. Ask about lead time, transportation (the shape can be delicate!), and how the cake will be displayed to keep it stable and stunning. Pricing may vary depending on the level of detail, so bring inspiration photos and be open to your baker’s guidance. A quick consultation will help you understand what’s possible and how to tailor the design to your wedding vision.
How can a domed cake complement your overall wedding aesthetic?
One of the best parts of a domed cake is how seamlessly it blends into any wedding style. For a modern celebration, a clean white dome with minimal décor feels chic and editorial. For a garden or romantic theme, cascading florals soften the shape beautifully. If your wedding is whimsical or colorful, the dome becomes a playful canvas for bold hues or artistic textures. No matter your aesthetic, this shape adds a touch of sophistication that elevates your entire dessert display.
Domed wedding cakes are a fresh, modern way to elevate your dessert table while still giving you that classic cake‑cutting moment. If you’re looking for a unique wedding cake trend that’s stylish, customizable and guaranteed to wow your guests, a domed cake might be the perfect choice for your big day.

Through 360-degree immersive video, Reloom VR is redefining how wedding day memories are made.

Image by Gabriela Rojas, courtesy of Reloom VR
Most brides understand that there are only a few tangible aspects of their weddings that will live on through the years: their dress, maybe a few pressed flowers, and of course pictures and video. While those pieces represent so many beautiful moments of the day, a lot of the finer details will inevitably fade as time passes.
But Zvi Goffer, founder of Reloom VR, wants to change that inevitability. When he helped a close friend preserve their father’s memory, he quickly realized that this revolutionary product could become a “modern day heirloom” for newlywed couples.

Image by John Chan Photography, courtesy of Reloom VR
“This is the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.” – Zvi Goffer, Reloom VR
Zvi founded Reloom VR’s predecessor – Campus VR – in 2019. “If you live in Long Island or New York City but you want to attend UCLA, most people can’t afford to fly out, pay for meals and hotels, and spend two weeks in California,” he said. “If you take a headset and you can feel like you’re walking through the campus, then families can tour schools together from their own living rooms. It saves a lot of time, a lot of money, and a lot of energy.”
But Zvi’s close friend saw another purpose for this technology. Knowing that his ailing father would soon pass, he asked that Zvi document one of their last Sundays watching football together. After his father was gone and he rewatched the footage, Zvi’s friend was brought to tears. “He said, ‘For those twenty minutes I was watching, I had forgotten my father had passed. This is the greatest gift anyone has ever given me in my life. You need to do this for other people.’”
Zvi began brainstorming other ways he could help people remember special moments. He offered his services to a Brooklyn rabbi whose daughter was getting married, and the feedback was just as encouraging. “The rabbi said, ‘I feel like I just went back in time, and dropped in as a guest at my own daughter’s wedding. My brain hasn’t wrapped itself around what I just saw – this is unbelievable.’” It was then that Reloom VR was born.

“It’s like wedding video 2.0” – Zvi Goffer, Reloom VR
Photography and videography can preserve so much of your day. Reloom VR takes it a step further as a complementary storytelling vertical. “It’s like wedding video 2.0,” Zvi described. “We call it moment-specific time travel. You literally go back in time and attend the event.”
So, how does Reloom VR work? Upon booking, a dedicated concierge team is immediately at your service, answering any questions and acting as your point people throughout the planning process.
On the big day, “a team of two operators will go to your wedding,” Zvi explained. “We bring two stationary tripods and a mobile tripod that follows the action in 360 degree format, and no one knows it’s there. We capture footage, edit it, and put it together in chapters like first look, reception, cake cutting, and so on. You put on your headset that comes with each package, and then boom – you get sent back to that moment in time. No matter which direction you look in, you’re back in that moment again.”

Image by Clane Gessel, courtesy of Reloom VR
Obviously, the ability to “go back in time” to attend your wedding has so many meaningful advantages. “When we have children in the future, our kids are going to be able to actually attend our wedding,” Zvi said. “The opposite of that coin is people aren’t going to be around forever. I would give anything to be in the room when I danced with my mother. Also, we think about the fact that, for health or financial or geographic reasons, some people won’t be able to attend your wedding. Now, they can feel like they did.”
“So many brides and grooms say to me that they feel like they actually got to see everything,” he continued. “You spend years of your life on these details, and when you put on your headset you get to experience it all again and know that all that time and planning was worth it.”
“I honestly haven’t seen something this exciting in the wedding industry in a long time.” – Heather Cunningham, Brides of Long Island
The Reloom VR team made a huge impression on Brides of Long Island founder Heather Cunningham. “I remember the first time I experienced this technology at a wedding expo,” she said. “Within seconds it felt like I was standing at someone’s wedding. I could look around the room and experience the moment as if I were actually there. In that instant I knew this company was going to be huge.”
Blown away by their demonstration, Heather invited Reloom VR to document the 2025 BOLI Summer Soiree. “When the headset was delivered later and I put it on, I was transported right back to that night,” she described. “But what made it even more incredible was that I was seeing the event from a perspective I never get to experience as the host. I could see all of our guests enjoying themselves, the dance floor packed, people laughing, celebrating, and having fun. It was honestly surreal.”

Image by Gabriela Rojas, courtesy of Reloom VR
“What makes this experience even more meaningful is that it’s not just amazing for the couple, it can also be incredibly powerful for family members who may not have been able to attend the wedding,” she continued. “With this technology, they can put on the headset and truly feel like they are there. I honestly haven’t seen something this exciting in the wedding industry in a long time.”
“How many days in your life do you really remember forever?” – Reloom VR
Zvi stressed the importance of embracing the joyful moments in our lives. “I think we’re at a point now where people are valuing the experience that they have with loved ones and friends,” he said. “How many days in your life do you really remember forever? This is a way where you can take this day and enjoy it, and relive it as much as you want. You don’t have to say goodbye to the most cherished days of your life. And then you can also share it with the next generation.”
“What are heirlooms? Jewelry, other items,” he continued. “This is a modern day heirloom. It’s memory preservation at its core, and I think that’s really cool.”

We spoke with BOLI Preferred Vendor Sweet Harmony about the artistry, intuition and behind‑the‑scenes magic of live music, which makes a beautiful and powerful impact on your wedding day.

Live music has a unique way of transforming a wedding day — not just filling the air with sound, but shaping the emotion, timing and energy of every moment. For Sweet Harmony, a BOLI Preferred Vendor, that magic comes from the connection they build with each couple, and the intuitive way their musicians read a room.
Whether it’s slowing a processional to match a bride’s steps or creating a custom arrangement that feels deeply personal, their performances turn familiar songs into unforgettable memories. We sat down with founder Tara Bhrushundi to explore how live musicians bring a level of personalization no playlist can match.
Music Tailored to Your Love Story
Sweet Harmony approaches every ceremony with the belief that music should reflect a couple’s personality. Their song list — built and expanded continuously since 2008 — gives couples a huge starting point, but Tara says the real magic happens when clients bring in new ideas. “Today’s couples introduce us to so much interesting music, and we’re always learning something new,” she explains. Whether it’s adapting a TikTok‑famous track, arranging a hip‑hop song for strings or commissioning custom sheet music, their team has systems in place to transform any request into a meaningful, playable moment.
Choosing ceremony music can feel overwhelming, especially when couples are staring at a long song list and don’t know where to begin. Tara and her team start by asking about a couple’s style, theme or the overall feeling they want to create, and then offer suggestions and examples to help narrow the options. “A lot of people say they want something ‘slower,’ but what they really mean is romantic or emotionally powerful – so we listen carefully and ask for a reference recording to make sure we’re on the same page,” she explains. From sharing trends to sending sample recordings back and forth, Sweet Harmony works closely with each couple until every musical moment feels intentional, personal, and just right for their day.
Adapting in Real Time, No Matter What Happens
One of the biggest advantages of live musicians is their ability to adjust instantly to whatever unfolds during the ceremony. Tara shared how even something as simple as a flower girl’s walk can require on‑the‑spot creativity: “You never know what a little flower girl is going to do. She might run, she might wander off, she might take her time, so our musicians watch closely and shape the music to match.” They can repeat a song’s most recognizable section, add light flourishes or stretch out a moment without it ever sounding abrupt or repetitive. Dogs, kids, unexpected pauses — the musicians stay fully present so the moment feels seamless to guests.
In other cases, their adaptability smooths over moments that could otherwise feel awkward. Tara recalled a wedding where the officiant — the bride’s grandfather — accidentally began the ceremony before the bride had even walked down the aisle. “We jumped in with a grand, majestic flourish to reset the moment and give her the entrance she deserved,” she says. Unlike a recording, which can’t jump, fade or shift gracefully, live musicians can add intros, adjust endings and create transitions on the fly, ensuring every moment feels intentional and beautifully timed.

Behind‑the‑Scenes Coordination That Makes Everything Seamless
Sweet Harmony works closely with planners, venues and other vendors to make sure the musicians have everything they need long before the ceremony begins. Their event coordinator handles logistics like weather protection for string instruments, power access and equipment compatibility so the performers can focus entirely on the music. “A wedding brings so many people together for the first time, so our coordinator reaches out early to make sure everyone knows what we need — from umbrellas to chairs,” Tara explains.
On the day of, the musicians check in with officiants to confirm the exact cue for the recessional and coordinate with sound teams for smooth transitions. Whether it’s waiting for a final line, a joke or an introduction before starting the music, they make sure every moment lands exactly as intended.
The Lasting Impact of Live Music
Couples often tell Sweet Harmony that the live music ended up being one of the highlights of their entire wedding day. Many don’t realize just how powerful it will feel until they’re in the moment, hearing their processional or cocktail‑hour soundtrack performed just for them. Tara shared that guests notice it too: “People tell us their guests were complimenting the music all night, and that means so much to us — couples really want their guests to have an outstanding, memorable experience.”
Sweet Harmony also offers flexibility far beyond the ceremony. They can provide ensembles for cocktail hour, string quartets for full‑wedding ambiance or even pair electric violinists and saxophonists with a DJ to blend live performance into the reception. Whether couples want a single meaningful moment or music woven throughout the entire celebration, Sweet Harmony brings a level of artistry and emotion that elevates every part of the day.

The day is about you, but you’ll still want to avoid the worst etiquette mistakes you can make as a couple.

One of the biggest pieces of advice we give to our brides of Long Island is this: “It’s your day, and you get to decide what’s best for you.”
While we wholeheartedly believe in that statement, you’ll still want to think about those who are coming together and making the day possible. Yes, the concept of “etiquette” certainly applies to your guests, but it applies to you and your fiancé too! There are ways that you can extend your gratitude and make the day a true celebration, and there are some mistakes you can make that will leave things on a sour note.
As you’re planning and prepping for your wedding, be sure to avoid some of the worst etiquette mistakes you can make as a couple. They may be totally unintentional, but giving some thought to them now can prevent any tension on the big day.

Forgetting about your guests
This may seem like a no-brainer — of course you think about your guests, it’s not a party without them! However, there are choices you can make that may annoy or inconvenience them at best, and offend them at worst.
Think about who you are inviting. If you have some guests that are older and use mobility aids, like walkers or wheelchairs, how are they going to feel about an oceanside ceremony that’s a quarter mile away from the parking lot? If you’re inviting vegans, vegetarians, or those with other dietary restrictions, will they be hungry with no real options to choose from on your menu? If your hour-long ceremony starts at 2 but they cocktail hour doesn’t start until 7, how will your guests fill the time? And if that cocktail hour is outside in March, how will they keep warm? If you’ve skipped on plus ones but sit singles at tables with people they don’t know, how much fun will they have…especially if you only have a cash bar?
Your wedding should be a day about you and your new spouse. But if you truly don’t want to think about anyone else, eloping is the way to go.

Throwing your schedule out the window
Everyone is guilty of running late to things every now and then. Your wedding day, though? It’s crucial you stick to your schedule. Timelines are a big deal for a reason — a lot happens on your wedding day and it’s easy for things to get out of hand. Always keep an eye on the clock and keep things moving according to schedule. You’ve asked your guests to be on time for things, don’t keep them waiting.
This goes for events outside of the actual wedding, too. Be on time to your bridal shower, engagement party, bachelorette events, and rehearsal dinner.
Neglecting to appreciate to your bridal party
There’s more to being in a bridal party than dressing up and walking down an aisle. They plan (and pay for) various wedding activities, support you during the entire planning process, and take time out of their lives to celebrate you. Be sure to show them how grateful you are for their efforts! This is usually done with a gift close to the big day — jewelry, watches, clothing, or other small tokens of appreciation are appropriate.
Also, if you’re asking your girls to get ready together in the morning, feed them! You’ll have a long day ahead, and lots of hours before you’ll get the opportunity to eat. And if you’re requiring that they have their hair and makeup professionally done, it’s common courtesy to cover that cost.

Not taking care of your vendors
Your vendors work hard to create the day of your dreams. They spend hours and hours of time on your wedding, both in preparation and on the actual day. For vendors that work your wedding events (like DJs and MCs, photographers and videographers, photo booth attendants, etc), you’ll need to make sure they’re fed during the festivities. Treat every member of your vendor team with respect — that goes for ALL vendors (and don’t forget to tip).
Forgetting to say “thank you”
Your wedding day will be a whirlwind to say the least. Between pictures, first dances, and cake cutting, you’ll seem like you’re rushing from one place to another. While you’ll definitely want to make sure you have a good time, it’s also important to thank those in attendance.
Receiving lines are an easy way to hit most of your guests at once, but if you don’t want to do one, find the time during your reception to address everyone. Going around to each table should allow you to say “thanks” to everyone there.
And once the big day has come and gone, get those thank you notes out!
Don’t stress over choosing a photographer or videographer, BOLI has the best wedding photographers on Long Island to create wedding day memories.

Your photographer and videographer aren’t just vendors, they’re the storytellers who preserve every laugh, tear and in‑between moment of your wedding day. They help shape your timeline, guide you through the flow of the day and often become the people you trust most in the whirlwind of it all. That’s why choosing the right fit matters. You want someone whose style speaks to you, whose presence puts you at ease and whose vision aligns with everything you’ve imagined for your best day ever.
But there are so many to choose from! Where do you begin? Well, you’re in luck because Brides of Long Island has some of the best photographers on Long Island as our Preferred Vendors. With the list below, you are bound to find someone great to work with.

In Brides of Long Island’s Monthly “Mrs.” series, we profile some of our members’ unforgettable weddings. This month, Brooke talks about how a last-minute decision made her wedding day memorable.

From a spontaneous night out with friends to a stunning fall wedding seven years later, Brooke and Patrick made it official on October 24, 2025 at The Bayview House at Captain Bills, a BOLI Preferred Venue.
Her Knight in Shining Armor
Brooke and Patrick’s story began on 11/11 — an especially meaningful date for Brooke, who has always been an “11:11 make‑a‑wish kind of person.” They were both out with friends when Brooke found herself cornered by an overly drunk, aggressive man. Before she could react, Patrick stepped in, placing himself between her and the stranger with an easy confidence that immediately made her feel safe. “He winked at me and said, ‘I thought you were struggling. I got you. My name’s Pat,’” Brooke recalled. The moment broke the tension, and the two spent the rest of the night talking and laughing. They clicked instantly and started dating almost right away.
After years of growing together through college and beyond, Patrick surprised Brooke with a day she’ll never forget. He planned a full date out east, starting with lunch at a quiet waterfront spot before taking her to RGNY Winery for a private tasting where they even made their own wine. “He bought eight bottles so we could open them for future special occasions,” Brooke said. Patrick proposed right there in the vineyard, surrounded by fall colors, and moments later both of their families appeared to celebrate with them.
Jumping Right In
Brooke and Patrick booked their venue within two weeks of getting engaged, knowing they wanted a shorter engagement and already having a clear sense of what they each envisioned. Brooke had always dreamed of renting out a restaurant for the night, while Patrick preferred a more traditional wedding venue. The Bayview House at Captain Bills offered the perfect blend of both. “It was the perfect mix,” Brooke said. “Bayview is owned by a restaurant, so it gave us exactly what we both wanted.” Its waterfront setting sealed the deal — sunset light poured through the space on their October wedding day, creating warm, glowing colors in every corner.
Once the venue was secured, Brooke focused on finding vendors who were independent and people she could genuinely connect with rather than large companies. Her photographer, Michelle Marie Photography, was the first vendor she booked and quickly became one of the most important. “I don’t think the day would have been the same without Michelle,” Brooke said. “She’s so sweet and she genuinely cares.” Michelle delivered 60 sneak peeks by the next afternoon.

Hair and makeup took longer to find, but Brooke ultimately booked ARG Beauty, a BOLI Preferred Vendor, and AP Hair Designs after loving their work during her trials. “My hair and makeup didn’t budge all night,” she said.
The rest of their team rounded out the celebration perfectly, including a photo booth from BOLI Preferred Vendor JMC Photobooths and a late‑night pizza truck with cannolis on the dance floor courtesy of The Sicilian Wheel, a BOLI Preferred Vendor. Every vendor fit her vision, her budget and her easygoing planning style.
The Little Things to Make Her Day
Brooke said she truly “hit it home” with her vendors, but the biggest surprise of the day came from the content creator she booked just four weeks before the wedding. After buying a house, renovating it and planning a wedding all at once, she initially felt a content creator was out of budget. But after seeing the incredible work Brittany from The Bridal Club did for her sister‑in‑law, she reached out on a whim. “I didn’t even think she’d be available with that short of notice, but she was.” The next‑day content ended up being one of Brooke’s favorite parts of the entire experience.
One moment in particular meant everything: during their no‑phone ceremony, Brooke’s 2‑year‑old niece yelled, “Yay, Brookie!” as she walked down the aisle. “I didn’t think anyone got it,” Brooke said. “Then a few days later, I found it! Brittany had captured it. It was the sweetest surprise.”

What made the day truly unforgettable were the quiet, emotional moments Brooke and Patrick carved out for each other. They did their first look at the Bayard Arboretum, a peaceful pause before the whirlwind ahead. “Seeing him for the first time was just so amazing,” Brooke said. “My day started at 7 a.m., and I didn’t see him until around 2. Finally getting to be together felt so special.”
After the ceremony, they slipped out to the docks to breathe, take in the waterfront views and soak in the reality of the day. They stayed side‑by‑side all night, intentionally experiencing every moment together. Her brother officiated, her best friend created all the décor by hand, and the sunset poured through the windows of The Bayview House — each detail adding another layer of meaning. “Everything just came together so beautifully,” she said. “We really got to live it together.”
Don’t Get Caught Up
Brooke leaned on the Brides of Long Island community from the very beginning, joining the page the day she got engaged and using it as her guide for nearly every decision. “I used the group to book every single one of my vendors,” she said. “The group swayed the majority of my decisions.” Her advice to other brides is to stay grounded and keep your circle small. “Try not to get so caught up in everything — decision fatigue is real,” she said. “Ask a few people you really trust, not a hundred. And remember that at the end of the day, it’s about you and your partner becoming husband and wife. Everything else is just details.”

Create an unforgettable first impression with these inspired ways to elevate your wedding invitations.

Your wedding invitations are the very first glimpse your guests get of your celebration, which makes them a great opportunity to set the tone from the start. Choosing unique, thoughtful details not only helps your suite stand out in a sea of standard stationery, but also gives guests an immediate sense of your style, your story and the experience you’re inviting them into. Here are seven ways to make your wedding invitations stand out.
Custom Design
Working with a designer to create a custom invitation suite ensures your stationery feels completely unique to your love story. From hand‑drawn illustrations to bespoke monograms, this route gives you total creative freedom and a truly one‑of‑a‑kind first impression.
Unique Shapes or Materials
Choosing an unexpected shape or material instantly elevates your invitations and makes them feel more like keepsakes than paper goods. Think acrylic, vellum, arch‑shaped cards or layered textures that add dimension and surprise.
Bold Color Palettes
Leaning into rich, vibrant colors can turn your invitation suite into a true statement piece that reflects your wedding aesthetic. Whether you go moody, pastel or full‑on jewel‑tone, a confident color choice sets the tone long before guests arrive.
Digital Invites
Digital invitations are a modern, eco‑friendly option that still allow for beautiful design and personalization. They’re perfect for couples who want to streamline communication, send updates quickly or keep everything neatly stored online.
QR Code RSVP (Featuring Ring Leader!)
Adding a QR code to your invitation makes RSVPing effortless for guests. And the best app to do this? Our Ring Leader app, of course! Keep everything organized in one place with Ring Leader’s built‑in RSVP feature that lets you track responses, meal choices and guest details instantly, without the stress of managing loose cards or spreadsheets.
Adding Your Own Unique Items
Including personal elements — like a sketch of your pet, a map of your venue or a custom wax seal — adds meaning and personality to your invitation suite. These small touches help guests feel connected to your story before the celebration even begins.
Non‑Traditional Wording
Playing with unexpected or playful wording can instantly set your invitations apart and give guests a feel for your wedding vibe. Whether you lean romantic, humorous or boldly modern, your language can be just as memorable as the design itself.
No matter which direction you choose, the details you include in your invitations help set the tone for the celebration your guests will soon step into. When you lead with creativity and intention, your suite becomes more than stationery — it becomes the first chapter of your wedding story.
