All the planning and prep has lead you to this moment — your wedding day! Now all that’s left to do is get ready, walk down the aisle, and have the best celebration ever.

The “getting ready” part of your day should be fun, too! Here are 7 ideas for your wedding morning, sure to get your whole crew pumped for the amazing day ahead.

1. Nosh from a grazing table

You’ve got a long day ahead, so make sure you grab a good breakfast! A grazing table with fresh fruit, meats, and cheeses will give you energy and keep you satiated until cocktail hour. Plus, the artistry and detail of your table will make for some great first pictures. BOLI Preferred Vendor Charcuterie Babe creates custom tables and boards that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

2. Jam to an epic playlist

Poll your bridal party on their favorite tunes and make the ultimate wedding day playlist. Whether you’re going for a 90’s hip hop vibe or a collection of boy band greatest hits, these songs will get your girls up and dancing (once they’re done with their makeup, that is).

3. Hand out bridal party gifts

Your bridal party has been by your side through thick and thin. Take some time before everyone walks the aisle to show your appreciation! It’ll be just like Christmas morning, with more hairspray.

4.  Have a “first look” with your bridal party

A “first look” with your fiancé will be a beautiful moment, but we think your bridal party deserves a special surprise too! Present your bridal glam to your besties in grand fashion — and get some amazing pictures in the process!

5. Plan a game night…err, morning

Truth is, there will probably be a bit of downtime the morning of your wedding. Fill the minutes with a some fun! Tell your bridesmaids to bring their favorite board games, a deck of cards, or interactive app-based games.

6. Clear your mind

You never miss your weekly Yoga class, why would you let a little thing like your wedding stop you? (Just kidding 😂 ). In all seriousness, if Yoga or light exercise does wonders for your mood, it might be possible to fit a mini-session into your morning. Drag your girls out of bed and have them join you in the hotel conference room.

7. Create some content

Remember that downtime we mentioned? You can also use it to make some killer content! Try out the latest TikTok trend or start editing an epic wedding day reel. Don’t want to create the content on your own? Hire a pro instead! BOLI Preferred Vendors Empire Content Creation, Slick Creations, or Here Comes the Content are perfect for the job.

No matter the relationship with your mother or mother-in-law, it’s important to manage expectations.

It’s finally time! You get to go wedding dress shopping. You’ll likely have some idea of the style you’re looking for and, of course, your besties will probably want to come with you. Your mother and/or mother-in-law may also be interested in helping you choose the perfect gown, but how do you dress shop with your mother or mother-in-law?

No matter your relationship, here’s how to dress shop with your mother or mother-in-law.

Manage Expectations

Before you head out to a bridal salon, figure out what you’re looking for as far as style, price point, color, and designer goes. Communicate with your mother or mother-in-law ahead of time to loop them in — tell them what your ideal gown looks like, and the kinds of dresses that catch your eye. This will give them an idea of your preferences, so they’ll know what to expect as they “ooh and ahh” over the dresses you model! This could also help them narrow their focus, so they don’t suggest different styles or gowns you’re not interested in.

Keep an Open Mind

Just as you want to manage their expectations, it’s also important to keep an open mind for yourself. We’re not saying to try everything your mother or mother-in-law suggests, but it might not hurt to try something they think would look great on you. They usually have your best interest in mind. And if you hate it, there’s nothing wrong with saying so!

Know Their Personalities

At this point in your life, you know both your mother and mother-in-law’s personalities. Take this into consideration as you dress shop. If you think their personalities will clash, maybe take separate shopping trips. If everyone gets along, make it a group outing. Either way, just remember the experience is all about you, so make sure you’re happy.

MORE: 6 Things to Wear When Dress Shopping

Set Boundaries

This goes along with managing expectations. Set those boundaries early. If you don’t want them to take photos, that’s fine. But let them know, as they will probably be eager to not only take those photos, but share them with their friends.

It’s also important to let them know that you will keep their suggestions in mind, but ultimately, your dress is your decision. If you set those boundaries before you head out, it will make the dress shopping experience fun for everyone.

Put You First

The dress shopping experience should be about you and only you. Yes, it’s great that your mother or mother-in-law wants to share that experience with you, but make sure that you put yourself first. Schedule your shopping trips at times that are convenient for you, choose the salons that you want to visit, and be the main point person for your bridal consultant. You are the one getting married, and you are the one wearing the dress, so you (and only you!) are in charge of the experience.

MORE: What you feel when you find THE dress

And remember — there is nothing that says you HAVE to dress shop with your mother or mother-in-law. If you prefer to shop with only your besties in tow, consider involving your mother or mother-in-law in another special wedding activity. Just as with everything else planning related, it’s your wedding and you can do what you want.

BOLI Diamond Award Winner NY Officiants blends professionalism, personalization, and pure joy into your wedding day

Wedding ceremony presided over by NY Officiants

Your wedding ceremony is the symbolic beginning of your lives as a married couple, and the moment when all of your dreaming, planning, and preparation will be fully realized.

But your ceremony is also important because it sets the tone for the rest of your day, creating a mood and atmosphere that will translate into your cocktail hour, reception, and even your after-party.

This is a fact that Christopher Muhlhauser, owner of BOLI Preferred Vendor and 2024 Diamond Award recipient NY Officiants, understands completely. After entering the wedding industry in his teens, he’s learned what it takes to create joyful and memorable ceremonies. And he’s built a team of elite professionals that bring all of those beautiful elements to life.

“I’ve known the wedding industry my whole life.” – NY Officiants

For Christopher, an early job ended up inspiring a lifelong career. “I’ve been in the wedding industry since I was sixteen years old,” he remembered. “I used to move equipment for all the big wedding DJs. Then in my mid-to-late twenties, I opened up my own wedding entertainment company and now my partner runs that fully – TLC Entertainment, which is also a Brides of Long Island Preferred Vendor.”

He eventually transitioned into officiating, making a full-time switch during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I started officiating for couples here and there. Then when everything shut down, I opened up NY Officiants. So I’ve known the wedding industry my whole life.”

“Everything that we do is personalized.” – NY Officiants

When you book with NY Officiants, you’ll never get a “cookie cutter” ceremony. “Everything that we do is personalized,” Christopher described. “That’s why we take the time to speak to each couple – we create the custom ceremony that they envision. It’s all based on what the couple wants.”

How does the booking process work? “We send a simple link to a form that our couples fill out. Once they submit that form, we have a thorough conference call to go over all the details, from start to finish,” he explained. “Couples can go on our Instagram and website and see everything that we’re mentioning on the call. We also communicate the importance of hiring a professional wedding officiant.”

And speaking of professional wedding officiants, NY Officiants has a team full of passionate individuals ready to preside over your wedding – no matter what your background or preferences happen to be. “We have bilingual officiants, rabbis, women officiants, interfaith officiants – NY Officiants is a whole company of varied, full-time officiants that cater to you.”

NY Officiants can also provide additional wedding day services. “We offer professional photography, videography, and we just added ceremony content creation as well,” Christopher said.

“Your ceremony is the first part of your wedding day, and you want it to end on a high note.” – NY Officiants

While many couples may think that having friends or family officiate their nuptials will result in a more personal experience, Christopher believes that nothing could be further from the truth. “You want to make sure that you have a professional that is going to be able to guide the ceremony along in a proper time frame,” he stressed. “A lot of couples think that a friend or family member knows them best and can tell the best story, but we can do that. We will know you after working with you. So you’re getting the best of both worlds – we’re able to tell your story but also do it in a professional way.”

He also highlighted the importance of keeping your ceremony upbeat. “It’s important to get that ‘lighthearted’ segment because it’s a game changer. Your ceremony is the first part of your wedding day, and you want it to end on a high note. The energy from your ceremony flows into the rest of your day.”

“It was definitely a cool experience.” – NY Officiants

When asked about his favorite wedding memories, two very special moments came to mind. “I married a couple in their late 80’s,” he recalled. “They were high school sweethearts and during World War II, he got drafted and went into the army. They lost touch and each started their own lives, getting married and having kids, and then eventually both of their spouses passed. They linked up through mutual acquaintances, and realized that they always felt like they should have gotten married. So I married them and it was so sweet, because they were so in love.”

He also reminisced about another unique event. “I had a couple that wanted to get married in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, it was a 10-hour hike to get to this lake they call ‘Lake Colden.’ My wife and I, a few photographers and the couple, hiked into the mountains and camped for two nights. I married them in this picturesque, beautiful setting. There were no cell phones, no nothing, but it was definitely a cool experience.”

“If you sleep on it, you’re not going to get what you want.” – NY Officiants

Christopher had some great advice for brides-to-be planning their Long Island weddings. “Pricing should be a concern, but more importantly, you should want to know more about the value,” he recommended. “Ask pertinent questions like ‘what sets you apart from other officiants?’ instead of ‘what is your pricing?’ I’m very transparent about doing business in the open, so I tell our couples they can read all of our 253 five-star reviews right on our website.”

He also suggested booking sought-after vendors as soon as you can. “Don’t wait too long to hire the industry professional you want. If you sleep on it, you’re not going to get what you want because they will most likely be booked already. So if you reach out and your vendor is available, try to make a jump on it.”

In Brides of Long Island’s Monthly “Mrs.” series, we profile some of our members’ unforgettable weddings. This month, we spoke with Diana about how she incorporated her love of Harry Potter, and Ralph’s Italian Ices, into her wedding day.

After a long engagement, Diana and Rob had their perfect wedding in September 2023. And Diana has BOLI Preferred Vendor Sand and Tee Events to thank for making her wedding dreams come true.

A Five-Year Engagement

Diana and Rob met through mutual friends during a fundraiser for her best friend’s sister, who passed away from cancer. Five years later, Rob proposed in 2017 in Astoria Park. “He had an arch set up with flowers and candles,” says Diana. “And our friends were waiting behind trees to take pictures of us.”

Since they were in the process of buying a house, Diana and Rob waited a few years to start wedding planning. And in that time, COVID hit. Once things settled down, they started to look at venues and fell in love with Larkfield for their Sept. 23, 2023 wedding. “We loved all the vibes that Larkfield had – from their fantastic cocktail hour to the rustic Italian feel, it was a no brainer for us,” Diana says.

A Classy Harry Potter Affair

Once Larkfield was booked, Diana says all of the other vendors fell into place, including their photographer and videographer Heartfelt Studio, a BOLI preferred vendor. She says they didn’t have any issues booking the vendors they loved, and that using Tina from Sand and Tee Events was the best thing they did for their wedding. “I love to read, and I love Harry Potter, so I had a vision, but I wasn’t sure how to accomplish it,” explains Diana. “But Tina took my vision and ran with it. She added subtle touches throughout the night that really captured myself and Rob, and it was perfect.” Some of those personal touches? A dais backdrop with hanging Harry Potter candles in the background, Harry Potter page table numbers and flowers around an arch with book pages entwined with the flowers. “And for our mirror welcome sign, Tina added suitcases around it because Rob and I love to travel.”

A Little DIY

An idea on TikTok turned into one of the standout moments of Diana’s wedding night – she saw a video about using wooden bookshelves for seating charts, with books that feature guests’ names and table numbers. “Rob is very handy and I have a Cricut, so I put us up to the challenge!” Rob built the three-shelf wooden bookshelf, while she made the books from Styrofoam and cardstock. “I used my Cricut to make everyone’s name to put on the books’ bindings. I think I made about 150 books for the shelves, but everyone loved them, so it was worth all of the blood, sweat and tears,” she says.

Ralph’s For the Win

Despite the rainy weather, Diana and Rob had the perfect wedding day. She says that Tina and her husband knocked it out of the park with the décor, and went above and beyond to help set up the bookshelf seating chart. She adds that Caroline from Heartfelt made them feel at ease and made the photos fun. “Sometimes it can be overwhelming with all of the picture taking, but Caroline made everything fun and upbeat,” says Diana. “And it was great because she is a Harry Potter fan too!”

The best pictures, though? “The ones we took at Ralph’s Italian Ices in Dix Hills!” says Diana. “Rob and I love Ralph’s, it’s always been a thing for us. So each time we drove to Larkfield for wedding planning, we wondered if we could stop there on our wedding day for photos.” And that’s exactly what they did. She says that Ralph’s staff was more than accommodating – especially in the rain. “We were able to take the photos outside and inside. They even gave us some ices and let us go behind the counter. It was such a great moment for Rob and I. We had so much fun – and the photos came out great!”

Staying True To Yourselves

All of the personal touches were so important to Diana and Rob, and she encourages other brides to stay true to themselves and their future spouses. “If you think something would be cool to do at your wedding, do it. Don’t worry about what everybody else says,” Diana mentions. “When I told people about taking photos at Ralph’s, they thought it was weird. But I’m so glad we went with our gut, because it was so meaningful for us.” And that’s what’s most important. Doing something you know is important to you as a couple – because in the end that’s who your wedding day is all about.

Your wedding may only be one day, but that day can live on through your pictures, video, and special keepsakes. It can even live on as a unique and captivating painting, thanks to live artist and BOLI Preferred Vendor By Brittany Branson.

Understanding the importance of truly knowing her couples, Brittany strives to create pieces that reflect not only your big day, but also your personalities, your values, and your beautiful love story.

“There’s room and opportunity here to strike out on my own.” – By Brittany Branson

For Brittany, the need for flexibility inspired a career change. “My husband is a pilot, and he could be gone for one or two weeks at a time,” she explained. “I was actively working in arts management, and I realized quickly that there were no guarantees he’d be off on a Saturday or Sunday. So I needed to find something where I could take the reins in terms of my time.’”

Remembering her 2015 wedding sparked an idea. “We had a live artist, and they were the only one I had ever come across. I figured that I have this arts management background anyway, and I’ve got some talent. There’s room and opportunity here to strike out on my own.”

“When my couples trust me to get creative, that makes me happy.” – By Brittany Branson

While your wedding photographer will be able to capture things exactly as they happen, Brittany offers something different. “I thrive on developing a relationship with my couples,” she described. “I listen to what’s most important to them. For example, if they’ve booked a venue because they adore the ceremony space, but are really looking forward to their first dance, I’ll merge the first dance into their ceremony space. When my couples trust me to get creative, that makes me happy.”

“I go into the wedding with a sense of who they are, and how much creative freedom they’re going to allow me to take,” she continued. “Most of my couples want the painting to focus on the two of them and then the details of the scene, and that I can complete by the end of the night. When they want additional people or pets added, that’s when I take it home and continue to work on it. I don’t want to rush things just for the sake of getting it done by the end of the wedding.”

“That’s where we get to have fun.” – By Brittany Branson

Yes, you read that correctly — Brittany can add people or pets into your painting, regardless of their attendance. “Pets are part of the immediate family, and they’re not always allowed to be present on the big day. They are always the number one request.” As an avid animal lover herself, Brittany donates a percentage of her proceeds to various animal welfare organizations.

She can even include loved ones who’ve passed away. “I do this very often. If couples want to add, let’s say, a male figure who would have worn the same tux as other men in the bridal party, I’ll ask for reference images and paint them in the same attire as if they were there. That’s really special.”

Knowing that sometimes the smallest details are the most meaningful, Brittany can bring in favorite decor items or floral touches as well. “If the couple is very excited about their cake or some of the ceremony florals that won’t be transferred to the reception, there’s absolutely no reason why I can’t add that into the painting. That’s where we get to have fun.”

“I’m never going to forget this.” — By Brittany Branson

When asked about her favorite wedding memory, an incredible moment came to Brittany’s mind. “The one I always come back to is a wedding I did at the River Cafe in Brooklyn,” she remembered. “My mom was an ICU nurse at Staten Island University Hospital, and when she was my age, the River Cafe was one of her special spots. So it was cool to have that full circle moment.”

But it was the end of the night that left the biggest impact. “My dad is a 9/11 survivor, and of course you get this incredible view of the World Trade Center from the River Cafe. We were all out on the dock space doing this sparkler exit and they started blasting Sinatra’s ‘New York, New York.’ I got very emotional and thought, ‘I’m never going to forget this.’”

“Put some blinders up to the people who may not get it right away.” – By Brittany Branson

Brittany had some valuable words of advice for brides of Long Island. “What I think is so cool about live painting is that I have my process, but then I have colleagues who are very much realism painters,” she said. “There’s an artist for everyone, so don’t feel like you have to settle for a style that you don’t vibe with. Open yourself up budget-wise and trust-wise to the idea of bringing someone in that is going to create something you want to hang on the wall, not something you want to hide in storage.”

She also stressed the value in resisting outside influences. “If your heart is set on a live artist, and you’re so excited about the process, the fact that it’s entertaining for your guests, and it’s something that’s tangible you get to keep forever, put some blinders up to the people who may not get it right away. It happens a lot that I’ll have a bride who is so excited to hire me, but the groom doesn’t really get it. By the time they’ve hired me and they see the finished product, the groom becomes the number one fan.”

Yes, they can be more than just a flower girl or ring bearer! Here’s how to include your children in your wedding day

Your kids are the center of your world, so it’s natural to want them there for one of the most important days of your life (aside from their birthday, of course). While most of us wouldn’t consider weddings to be particularly “child-friendly,” there are still plenty of ways to make your children feel like they’re a big part of the big day. Whether you dress them up in their bridal party best, or pull them out onto the dance floor for their very own dance, here’s how to include your children in your wedding.

Include them in your bridal party

Tapping your son or daughter for the bridal party is one of the most common ways to include your children in your wedding.  If they’re younger, having them take on a flower girl or ring bearer role is the natural choice. But that’s not your only option! Selecting your child to be a junior bridesmaid or junior groomsmen — or even a junior maid of honor or best man — is a great way to incorporate them into the festivities. As a member of the bridal party, your kids can hang out with you before the ceremony, strike cute poses for pictures, and walk the aisle in style before your big entrance.

Do a “first look” with them

Many brides decide to do a “first look” with their fiancés, why not do the same thing with your kids? First looks with your children can be extremely heartfelt, allowing both of you to create a beautiful core memory together. And can we just talk about those photo ops?! Be sure to have tissues on hand when you get your teasers back.

Bring them on the dance floor

Your kids are great dancers — trust us, we know! Along with your first dance and parent dances, consider adding a dance with your children to the lineup. Choose a song that’s special to both of you, and let your little ones wow your guests with their moves.

Let them make an entrance

Your bridesmaids, groomsmen and parents get entrances, so of course your children should get one too! Let your sons and daughters enter into your reception space all on their own, with a fun shout out from the DJ and maybe even their own accompanying music.

Mention them in your vows

Not only is your fiancé is marrying you, they’re also starting a “bonus family” with your children. Mentioning your kids during the vows is not only a way to include them in the wedding, but it’s a very meaningful way to signify their continued importance in your new lives together.

Hire a vendor especially for them

Let’s be real — kids can get bored at weddings. And we totally understand why! Sitting around and watching a bunch of grown-ups sip cocktails and dance to music they’ve never heard can’t be all that interesting. Consider hiring a vendor specifically for their enjoyment — magicians, face painters, or character performers are all excellent options that will keep them engaged and entertained.

Make them a part of your decor

Ordering a custom cake topper? Pop your little ones into the silhouette! You can also use their pictures as a part of your table numbers, seating charts, or centerpieces. If they’ve got a few creative talents, ask them to make decor pieces that will liven up your reception space. DIY projects from your kids can add an extra special touch to your surroundings!

These social media etiquette tips will make you the best wedding guest.

Weddings are such a fun time – we get to celebrate the happy couple and share in their special day. So it’s only natural that we’d want to post some great content from their wedding to our socials. But we need to remember – it’s our friend or family member’s big day, not ours.

Some couples may choose to keep their wedding intimate, which could mean staying off social media entirely. Here are some ways to avoid making these social media mistakes.

Mind the Signs

Oftentimes, couples will post signs if they want an unplugged ceremony. Make sure to adhere to this rule, as it’s important to the couple that their guests be fully present. Besides, by putting your phones away, you won’t block the professional photographers as they capture the special moments.

Don’t Live Stream

Unless you’re asked by the bride and groom, do NOT live stream any portion of their wedding day. This means everything – not even that fun flash mob that happened.

Don’t Post Without Permission

This goes along with live streaming. Don’t post any photos you take unless the bride and groom have given the OK. If you’re not sure, wait until after the big day and ask their permission. But respect their privacy if they still say no.

Don’t Make Your Own Announcement

Don’t steal anyone’s thunder! If you have your own announcement, let it wait until at least a few days after the wedding. This is their day, and they’ve worked hard (and probably spent a lot of money) to put everything together. It’s important to be mindful of outshining them.

Avoid Unflattering Photos

If you get the go-ahead to post photos on social media, make sure the bride and groom look their best. In fact, try to use photos where everyone looks their best. Avoid publishing any unflattering photos.

Keep Comments Positive

Once you’ve posted photos or messages about the wedding, monitor any comments. You want to make sure everything written is positive, as it’s a joyous occasion.

Use the Hashtag

If you’re ready to share, check if there’s a hashtag for the wedding. If there is, make sure to use it! This way, the bride and groom can look back on all those great memories.

The most important thing is that you’re sharing content in celebration of two people starting their next chapter. Photos are great, but memories last a lifetime. So put your phone down, get out on the dance floor and enjoy every second of this special day.

The Lannin, a newly-renovated venue nestled at Eisenhower Park Golf Course, offers a bespoke wedding experience.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue on beautiful grounds, that’s newly renovated and caters to one bride at a time, then The Lannin, a BOLI preferred vendor, should be at the top of your list. The property is located in the heart of Nassau County at the Eisenhower Park Golf Course, which offers a picturesque backdrop for all of your wedding photos.

Brand New Space

The Lannin, which opened in September 2023, is the former home of The Carltun. “We completely renovated the building,” says co-owner Elias Trahanas. “From brand new kitchens, bathrooms to the flooring and our spacious ballroom, everything is brand new.”

From the moment a bride walks in, they’ll be wowed by the grand ballroom, accommodating intimate gatherings as small as 30 guests and grand affairs of up to 450 guests, as well as the glass room that can be a space for your ceremony or cocktail hour. “With our glass room, all of the windows can open up to our garden with a brand-new fountain for an outdoor ceremony,” says Trahanas. “Or, if the weather isn’t cooperating, we can close the glass windows, but you still feel like you’re outdoors.”

Upstairs from the ballroom are the bride and groom suites, where you can get ready for your big day, take a quick break or touch-up during the festivities.

One Bride at a Time

Since The Lannin hosts one wedding a day, you won’t have to worry about rushing your event to make room for another. “You show up in the morning and stay the entire day,” says Trahanas. You also won’t have to worry about sharing spaces with other parties. “We offer exclusivity to our brides,” says Trahanas. “And we’re there with you every step of the way to help plan the wedding of your dreams.”

Blank Canvas

The Lannin offers a classy and modern feel, with rolling greens, fountains and elegant landscaping. And it’s all yours to decorate as you please! Do you want a cocktail lounge feel? Not a problem. A full black tie-Gatsby affair? The Lannin staff will make it happen. “Our space is a blank canvas. And our brides have the flexibility to create the most customized wedding of their dreams,” Trahanas explains. “We really look forward to bringing the unique ideas that brides have to life.”

Executive Chef

After your tour of The Lannin, be sure to sit down for a meal at their restaurant, The Union, where you can taste some of executive chef Tom Gloster’s creations. “Gloster really brings an elevated a la carte experience to The Lannin,” says Trahanas. From prime filets for dinner to hand-rolled sushi cocktail hour station, The Lannin’s menu offers something for every bride. And just like the space itself, you get a bespoke experience when creating your custom menu. “We’re definitely open to trying new things on our menu.”

Gloster changes up the menus seasonally, and menus can be tailored to specific dietary preferences or restrictions. They also offer Kosher options, thanks to a separate Kosher kitchen.

Premium Venue

This premium bridal venue also offers expert staff that will cater to your needs. From planning and prep to the big day, their staff will ensure that everything runs smoothly. “Moe, our head of banquet, brings more than 20 years of experience in wedding planning. He’ll meet with the brides a few weeks before their wedding to make sure their day goes by without a hitch,” says Trahanas. “It’s important for brides to trust us to elevate their wedding day.”

The Lannin is truly a one-of-a-kind Long Island wedding venue. They will create a truly bespoke experience and provide a modern, intimate backdrop for your big day!
